Ödland Galaktoboureko
Writing, composition, recording, photography and video direction for Galaktoboureko, the album by my band Ödland. Creating this album was the stage for many musical and visual experiments. For several months, I studied the mysterious and fascinating rebetiko music — both a source of inspiration and an artistic challenge — which deeply influenced the composition of this mostly acoustic album (featuring mandola, violin, ukulele, bouzouki, baglama, cello, flute, banjoline…). For the photos and videos accompanying the album, I handcrafted numerous paper set models, directed a 3D stop-motion music video (to be watched with the anaglyph glasses included in the album), and we filmed infrared video footage in Bulgaria, which gives the visuals their distinctive and dreamlike texture.
