On stage: a boat, two captains, surrounded by waves. On the deck, six passengers. Brune and Blanche, two young sisters, scatter the ashes of a mysterious deceased into the wind. Aimé and Albertine, an elderly brother and sister, embark on their final crossing before being forgotten.
Diego, the ship’s cook, dreams of becoming a great maritime painter one day. Anissa, meanwhile, writes down everything she sees in a secret notebook she always carries with her.
At first, the sea is calm, with no wave in sight. But during a storm, two passengers vanish into the depths.
Waves, a storm, a dizzying journey, hypnotic songs, paper-thin set designs that shiver with every breath, wild oceanic music, a theatre of strings, characters with hand-stitched scars: a ghost, a cook, an art teacher, an orphan, an ex-con, an amnesiac, mermaids, jellyfish women, a boat, two at the helm, and a lingering sense of unease.
Lyrics
C’était l’histoire d’un bateau
Sur les eaux noires d’un plateau
Sa trajectoire zigzague
Au gré des vagues
Animée par les flots
Mais cette histoire se dégrade
Brasier, oubli et noyade
Les dangers se succèdent
Au gré des vagues
Sur les eaux froides la balade
Où ? Où sommes-nous ? À Fukushima ?
Où ? Où sommes-nous ? À Lampedusa ?
Où ? Où sommes-nous ? Aux Saintes-Maries ?
Ça, notre histoire ne le dira pas
Il est partout l’incendie
C’était l’histoire d’un bateau
Sur les eaux noires d’un plateau
Sa trajectoire zigzague
Au gré des vagues
Animée par les flots
Sauvon l’enfant coquillage
Du menaçant engrenage
Brûlant les paysages
Au gré des vagues
Fin du voyage
C’est un naufrage
