Daniel Whelan is an Irish singer-songwriter. When he moved to Lyon, the idea of a joint project soon emerged: to record his new songs in the city, across different places and atmospheres.
From this shared adventure came an EP and four videos, gathered under the title Four Songs in Lyon.
The Project
Daniel wanted to keep a trace of his time in Lyon — and of the inspiration he found in this new environment.
Together, we imagined a series of live recordings: four songs, four locations, four moods.
Each session was filmed in a single day, under real acoustic conditions, using a light and flexible setup — camera, microphones, and close attention to the space itself.
The videos differ through simple creative choices: light scenography, slideshows, timelapses, and variations of light.
Sound and image were conceived together from the start.
Each space became part of the story — the ambient sounds, the streets, the nature, the background of cafés and bars.
The aim was to capture the direct emotion of a song performed here and now — which gives these four pieces their sincere and intimate tone.
EP release
The EP Four Songs in Lyon is now available on all streaming platforms.
« Thanks so much to everyone who helped me along the way. It’s been a great couple of years in Lyon and the craic making music has been 90. Looking forward to what comes next. It all started with Lorenzo Papace with the idea of doing the video for “Her Body is my Bethel” and low and behold just over a year later this it where it lands. »
