Her Body is my Bethel is a song written by Daniel Whelan, an Irish singer-songwriter based in Lyon, for which I directed and filmed a live recording.
The dreamlike atmosphere, created with the simplest materials at hand, inspired us to continue our collaboration with three more songs: So Far from Home, Dare I Be Glad, and Farewell to Erin.
Together, they form a coherent ensemble — musically, visually, and artistically — released as an EP titled Four Songs in Lyon in October 2025.

Lyrics
Her body is my Bethel where once I had dream.
I slept and saw a ladder and heaven’s angels sing.
Wake up, Jacob.
The sun had long since set when her voice it cried above.
The vault of sky was gothic under the tyranny of love.
Wake up, Jacob.
I rose to find my heavy head was placed upon a stone.
I felt afraid she had been there and then I felt alone.
Wake up, Jacob.
The cold wind blew down my neck as the morning cock it crowed.
Her body is my Bethel and her alter is my load.
Wake up, Jacob.
It was only a dream.

Filming
For this video, I created a symbolic scenographic element: a ladder standing upright by itself. This allowed me to create the illusion of a magical ladder rising into the sky by playing with perspective and framing—while avoiding digital special effects as much as possible.
